Book on birds in Kannada to be released on Friday

BANGALORE: For bird-watchers and wannabe ornithologists, two avid followers of the feathered kind have penned a unique encyclopaedic in Kannada.

Titled "Pakshi Prapancha," the book with over 312 pages on 160 bird species will be released at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan here next Friday.

Peppered with colour photographs and graphics, the book introduces readers to a wealth of information on each of the 160 species.

The book contains information on 160 species of birds

Inventors of the CCD honored

In 1969 Willard S. Boyle and George E. Smith, while working at Bell Laboratories, designed the first Charge Coupled Device (CCD), a working version was produced just a year later. The CCD as we know has become the bedrock the digital imaging revolution including digital photography and video. They have just been honored with the Charles Stark Draper Prize which is presented by the National Academy of Engineering, this includes a $500,000 award.
